The Telugu blockbuster ‘Ready’ has now forayed into Bollywood and this has been taken by the superstar Salman Khan. Let us see if it matches the original.

Story:
Prem Kapoor (Salman) hails from a rich family and he has a smart brain with a kind heart. His life takes a turn with the arrival of Sanjana (Asin) who poses as the possible marriage prospect for Prem and enters his home.

Actually, Sanjana is escaping from the clutches of her mafia uncles (Sharad Saxena, Akhilendra Mishra) who have their eyes on her property and become sworn enemies of each other due to that. In no time, Prem discovers her true identity but by that time he falls in love with her.

However, she is located by her uncles and Prem decides to put an end to this problem. How does he do that? What happens to his love story? All this forms the rest of the story.

Performances:

Salman is the life and soul of this movie as he gels into his character with ease. His contained performance connects well with the audience and he scores the brownie points.

Asin fills the romantic side and though there is not much from her in the performance side, she manages to show her sensuous side in the songs.

Paresh Rawal was excellent and as usual he entertains with his body language and one liners.

Mahesh Manjrekar was hilarious with his double entendres and he carries out his role effectively.

Akhilendra Mishra was apt, Sharad Saxena was decent, Manoj Joshi was moderate, Manoj Pahwa was good, Aryan Babbar was okay, Anuradha Patel is still gorgeous and attracts, Puneet Issar was brief, Sudesh Lehri brought few smiles. The special appearances by Arbaaz Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, Kangna Ranaut, Zarine Khan were fulfilling. The others did their bit as required and added value.

Highlights:

* Dialogues
* Visual appeal
* Three songs especially Dhinka Chika..
* Salman Khan- Asin chemistry
* Comedy

Drawbacks:

* Not as natural as the original
* Depth missing in emotional scenes
* Not enough star power (although stars appeared in guest roles)

Analysis
The film happens to be the remake of the Telugu flick ‘Ready’ and for Tollywood audience, the comparison is bound to happen.

As such, the nativity factor may be missing but then to the Hindi audience, this concept is new. Also, there is a significant twist in the story about the way the heroine enters the hero’s home unlike the original version.

However, with family bonding theme, fair amount of comedy, colourful sets and breezy entertainment and above all the concept, the Hindi audience will get the feeling of money’s worth.

This is another facet of Salman Khan which will appeal to his fans as well. There are times when the screenplay falters, especially during the first half and few fun scenes look superficial. But still, given the pace of the film and convicted performances, the film manages to leave no idle moment and follows the perfect formula for a commercial entertainer. Second half scores better than first half.

At the box office, the pre release hype and the chartbuster songs will give very strong openings and with an above average narrative, the film is bound to score well.

Bottomline: Hindi audience will appreciate this readily but Telugu audience let it down in comparison with original!!

While Abhishek Bachchan is taking his litmus test owing to his string of flops, it is also the debut of our Daggubati Rana in Bollywood. Let us see how much ‘Dum’ the film has got

Story:

Set on the backdrop of Goa, the story is about how drugs have taken over the paradise city and the increased presence of drug mafia.

Here comes ACP Vishnu Kamath (Abhishek) who decides to clean up the place. On the other hand, there is the social celebrity Lorsa Biscuita (Aditya Pancholi) who in the garb of social service runs a big drug cartel.

Caught in between the clash of Vishnu and Biscuit is DJ Joki (Rana) whose girlfriend Zoe (Bipasha) now stays with Biscuit, Lorie (Prateik) who aspires to go abroad and study but gets caught taking drugs. The search is on for one Michael Barbossa, the kingpin of this drug ring. Who is Michael Barbossa? What happens to everyone’s life forms the rest of the story.

Performances:

Abhishek Bachchan has come up with a strict performance and though there are those blank expressions, he makes his presence felt.

Daggubati Rana can be called the hero of the film. His screen time is longer than Abhishek, he has a significant role in the entire story and he gets to have the hot Bipasha. Performance wise, his stiff expressions still carry. He is yet to get that versatility of expressions on his face. Otherwise, his screen presence is good. He may get another chance on Bollywood screen for his great looks.

Bipasha Basu is seductive as usual and she does her bit as required.

Aditya Pancholi was handsome as usual and though his presence as the baddie doesn’t give that impact, he has given a sincere performance.

Prateik Babbar was apt, Govind Namdeo was great, Gantois Gomes was neat, Anaitha Nair was sweet. Deepika Padukone’s item song was not up to the hype. Vidya Balan’s cameo was brief but graceful.

Highlights:

* First half
* Scene compositions

Drawbacks:

* Dragged second half
* Deepika’s item song was dull
* No impacting scenes
* No character has significance

Analysis:

The basic plot of the film reminds us of the exceptional thriller ‘Usual Suspects’. However, the makers were clever in switching the characters here and there, changing the script with additional characters.

On the good side, the film was stylish, glossy and attempts to give some reality bites of Goa. On the flip side, the film passes off without any gripping moments or sequences that can strike a chord with the hearts of the audience.

Editing was much needed during the second half and if the film was trimmed there, it would have created good impact. But still, the attempt was novel, the essence was appreciable, the presentation was effective. At the box office, this will appeal to the multiplex audience so if word of mouth publicity goes strong, it can reach profit zone.

Bottom Line: Watchable but will not give you the ‘High’!!!

Akshay's 'Patiala House' Role Inspired by Monty Panesar

In his next film “Patiala House”, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar will be seen essaying a role which has been inspired by England cricket team’s Sikh member Monty Singh Panesar.

Panesar is the first Sikh to join England cricket team and the spinner is a crowd favourite. Panesar’s parents migrated there from Punjab.

In “Patiala House”, Akshay will be seen as Parghat Singh Kahlon, a British citizen whose dream is to be a pace bowler.

The film is being directed by Nikhil Advani and also stars Anushka Sharma, Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia. It is slated to release in Feb next year.
